European Union of Women - British Section

COMMISSIONS

Commissions enable members to participate and contribute towards the decision-making of the European Union, the Council of Europe and the United Nations.

There are ten Commissions. Each has a leader and two full members who are invited to serve by their National Section. At international level, the Chairman and Vice Chairman of each Commission are appointed by the International Council for a term of two years.

The Commissions are:

 Economics and Employment;

  Education, Culture & Science;

  Environment, Local Government ; Regional Planning;

  Family and Social Affairs;

  Food, Agriculture  Consumers;

  Health;

  Information  and Mass Media;

  International Policy;

  Judicial;

 Migrant, Refugees  and Demography.

Commission work covers a wide variety of issues which are decided at the EUW International Executive and completed within two years. The Commissions are grouped into three Workshops and work on three different subjects under an agreed theme. Papers are prepared and put together by each Workshop Chairman.

The resolutions from the Workshops are then taken to the International Council meeting for agreement. The results of the studies are sent to MPs, MEPs and all other relevant international, European and national organisations.
